RMS Queen Mary was constructed by John Brown and Co Ltd’s shipyard at Clydebank during the early 1930s. Designed as a luxurious ocean liner for the Cunard White Star Line, she was completed by 1936 and carried passengers in style across the Atlantic until 1967. She also served as a troop carrier during the Second World War.

This image of the ship’s construction was taken by the aerial photography firm, Aerofilms. RCAHMS holds one of the largest aerial photographic collections in the world, including the Scottish component of the historic Aerofilms archive.
