RCAHMS: Leslie Grahame Thomson MacDougall collection presented in 1983

The original owners of the Isobel Fraser Home of Rest approached the Aged Christian Friend Society of Scotland in 1926, inquiring if they would help to run the care home. The Society took on the challenge.

However, changes needed to be made to the old building. A neighbouring residential property was also purchased to provide additional space. New premises, shown in this presentation drawing, were designed by the architect Leslie Grahame Thomson. He conceived of a splay-planned structure to combine both buildings, as well as provide wide, welcoming grounds. The design is redolent of repose, showing residents enjoying a stroll in the garden.

The property remains in use as a care home today.
